Contract / Fractional (1099) Remote (US-Based)

Senior Power Electronics Engineer

Responsible for schematic capture, component selection, and PCB layout of our high-wattage power stage and gate drive circuitry.

Role Overview & Context

Sharkey Motion LLC is engineering proprietary motion control hardware. We require a senior EE to design the power stage, logic board, and encoder interface for a direct-drive servo. You will work closely with the mechanical engineer to ensure your PCB layout aligns with the physical thermal dissipation paths of the sealed housing.

Key Technical Requirements
  • Power Density: Must design ultra-compact motor drive circuitry capable of handling high continuous phase currents within a severely restricted physical footprint.
  • Component Expertise: Deep knowledge of wide-bandgap semiconductors (SiC/GaN), gate drive isolation, and high-temperature component selection.
  • Thermal-Electrical Co-Design: Ability to map critical heat-generating components to specific physical locations on the PCB to align with the mechanical engineer's thermal dissipation paths.
  • Signal Interfaces: Experience implementing industrial communication protocols (e.g., EtherCAT, CANopen) and standard encoder interfaces (e.g., BiSS-C, SSI).
  • Regulatory Compliance: Deep, practical understanding of UL 61800-5-1 insulation coordination, including exact creepage and clearance math.
  • Signal Integrity: Layout strategy heavily optimized for parasitic inductance minimization, gate driver loop optimization, and EMI reduction to pass FCC Part 15 Subpart B.
  • Tooling & BOM: Mastery of Altium Designer or KiCad. Ability to construct a highly resilient Bill of Materials prioritizing high-availability components from US distributors (e.g., DigiKey, Mouser).
Operational Expectations

This is a discrete, milestone-driven 1099 NRE contract. Prior to project kick-off and technical brief delivery, the selected candidate must execute a strict Confidential Information and Inventions Assignment Agreement (CIIAA) ensuring all generated schematic and layout IP is fully assigned to Sharkey Motion LLC.

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Responsible for electro-mechanical packaging, CAE thermal analysis, and precision DFM for a high-density, IP-rated servo drive enclosure.

Role Overview & Context

Sharkey Motion LLC is developing a highly integrated, next-generation direct-drive servo system. We require a precision mechanical engineer to design a custom 6061 aluminum housing that serves as both the physical envelope and the primary thermal dissipation path for high-wattage internal components.

Key Technical Requirements
  • DFM/DFA: Extensive experience designing complex enclosures optimized for external CNC machining. Must understand cutter limitations and cost-effective fixturing.
  • Precision Tolerancing: Deep expertise in GD&T, designing for strict press-fit tolerances, and specifying precision bearing seats.
  • CAE & Thermal Management: Proven ability to conduct thermal FEA and design effective passive heat sinking for enclosed, high-current switching electronics.
  • Environmental Sealing: Must design for strict IP65/IP67 ingress protection, including dynamic shaft sealing and static O-ring grooves.
  • Tooling: Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks. Ability to generate flawless STEP files and complete 2D manufacturing drawings.
Operational Expectations

This is a discrete, milestone-driven 1099 NRE contract. Prior to project kick-off and technical brief delivery, the selected candidate must execute a strict Confidential Information and Inventions Assignment Agreement (CIIAA) ensuring all generated CAD and mechanical IP is fully assigned to Sharkey Motion LLC.

Coming Soon (Phase I Validation) Full-Time Employee (W-2, Non-Exempt) Houston, TX, USA

Prototype CNC Machinist

Responsible for rapid, low-volume iteration of complex 6061 aluminum servo housings and precision press-fit stator fixtures.

Role Overview & Context

As Sharkey Motion LLC transitions from CAE simulation to physical validation, we will require a dedicated prototype machinist to cut initial housings and test fixtures. This role will work directly with the mechanical engineer's STEP files to refine toolpaths, validate GD&T press-fit tolerancing, and execute rapid design iterations prior to LRIP scale-up.

Anticipated Requirements
  • CAM Programming: Ability to independently generate highly optimized toolpaths from provided STEP files.
  • Precision Machining: Deep expertise operating 3-axis and 5-axis CNC mills for complex 6061 aluminum geometries.
  • Strict Tolerancing: Proven experience hitting tight GD&T callouts, specifically for bearing seats and motor housing assemblies.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to safely and independently lift, manipulate, and fixture metal stock weighing up to 50 lbs; stand for extended periods and safely operate heavy manual and CNC machinery; and sufficient manual dexterity to precisely handle measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers) and delicate cutting tools.

Note: We are not currently accepting applications for this role. If you are a machinist interested in future prototype work, please submit your resume via the General Application link below and select "Manufacturing" as your primary discipline.
